Hopetown, a groundbreaking nonlinear RPG developed by Longdue Games, introduces an innovative approach to narrative-driven gameplay. The studio, founded by former employees of renowned companies such as ZA/UM, Rockstar Games, and Bungie, has unveiled its first glimpse into the game’s mechanics. Positioned as a spiritual successor to the acclaimed Disco Elysium, Hopetown promises an immersive experience centered on a compelling storyline.
The game follows the journey of a journalist who wakes up in a mining town after a night of heavy drinking. Players start with a throbbing hangover and must unravel the events of the previous night while navigating a burgeoning local conflict. The choices made by players determine whether they will soothe the rising tensions or exacerbate them, adding depth to the narrative.

Screenshots of the game showcase a dialogue-heavy experience, where the decisions players make have a profound impact on the unfolding story. Hopetown offers multiple archetypes, each with unique dialogue options and approaches to interactions. For instance, when conversing with an old woman feeding pigeons, players can choose different tones, which directly influence the conversation's outcome.
Longdue Games is gearing up to launch a Kickstarter campaign to further fund the project, with an active page already on the platform. Although no specific release date has been announced, excitement is mounting among fans of narrative-focused RPGs.
Hopetown is not the only game inspired by Disco Elysium. Two other studios, Dark Math Games and Summer Eternal, are also developing their own psychological RPGs, adding to the growing interest in this genre.
