Battlefield Studios has launched Battlefield Labs, a revolutionary testing platform designed to foster collaboration between players and developers in shaping the future of the Battlefield franchise. This initiative promises a more direct influence on upcoming game development than ever before.
Battlefield Labs: Shaping the Future of Battlefield Through Community Collaboration
A New Era of Player Influence on Battlefield Games
On February 3rd, 2025, Battlefield Studios, in partnership with Electronic Arts (EA), announced Battlefield Labs – a groundbreaking community collaboration project. This platform allows players to actively participate in testing game concepts, mechanics, and features for upcoming Battlefield titles. The announcement highlighted the crucial development phase the next Battlefield game is entering, emphasizing the unparalleled opportunity for community input. Players will be at the forefront, directly shaping the gameplay experience through hands-on testing of new features and mechanics.
Battlefield Studios will initially invite a select group of players from European and North American servers to participate in the first phase of Battlefield Labs. While a precise release date remains unannounced, interested individuals can register their interest now [link].
Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn and Group GM for EA Studios Organization, stated, "This game has so much potential. To find that potential, with us being pre-alpha, now is the time to test the experiences our teams have been building for our upcoming launch. Battlefield Labs empowers our teams to do that."
While participation in Battlefield Labs will be initially limited, Battlefield Studios assures the broader community that updates will be regularly shared, ensuring everyone can follow the progress. Further community collaborations are planned for future Battlefield installments.
"Battlefield Studios comprises DICE, creators of the Battlefield franchise; Ripple Effect, a studio led by franchise veterans working on an all-new experience; Motive, developers of Star Wars Squadrons and Dead Space; and Criterion, renowned for racing franchises and their significant contributions to several Battlefield titles."
Battlefield Labs: Mechanics and Features Under the Microscope
While access to Battlefield Labs will be selective, allowing focused feedback on specific aspects, Battlefield Studios has detailed the areas players can expect to influence. As reported in a recent Battlefield news article, the testing will focus on iterative improvements.
"We will start by testing the pillars of play, like core combat and destruction," Battlefield Studios explained. "Then transition to balance and feedback for our weapons, vehicles, and gadgets, ultimately leading to where all these pieces come together in our maps, modes, and squad play." This includes the established Conquest and Breakthrough modes, providing opportunities to refine and innovate within familiar frameworks.
Conquest mode, known for its large-scale battles focused on capturing Control Points (flags), will be tested. Teams compete with a limited number of tickets, lost upon respawn or enemy flag control. Breakthrough mode, pitting attackers against defenders in sector-based combat, utilizes a similar ticket system, with attackers regaining tickets upon sector capture and bonus tickets for eliminating remaining enemy soldiers.
Finally, the class system will also be a focus for player feedback. While confident in their progress, Battlefield Studios recognizes the invaluable contribution of player insights in achieving the optimal balance of form, function, and feel.
