Pokémon TCG Pocket Devs Address Trading Issues After Player Backlash

Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket developer Creatures Inc. is actively working to enhance the trading feature, which faced significant backlash from players upon its launch last week. In a statement released on X/Twitter, Creatures Inc. expressed gratitude for player feedback and acknowledged that while the trading feature was designed to prevent abuse, some restrictions have hindered casual enjoyment.

The company promised to introduce required items as rewards in upcoming events to address player complaints. However, the recently launched Cresselia ex Drop Event on February 3 did not include these promised rewards, leaving players disappointed.

The trading system in Pokémon TCG Pocket includes several restrictions, including the need for Trade Tokens, which have been criticized for their high cost. Players must delete five cards from their collection to trade one card of the same rarity, a system that has drawn significant criticism.

Creatures Inc. explained that the trading restrictions were intended to prevent abuse by bots and multiple account holders, aiming to maintain a fair and enjoyable environment for all players. However, they recognized that these restrictions have impacted casual enjoyment and are now investigating ways to improve the feature. They also plan to offer multiple ways to obtain Trade Tokens, including through event distributions.

Despite these assurances, Creatures Inc.'s statement remains vague, lacking specific details on upcoming changes or timelines. Players are also uncertain about whether their current trades will be refunded or compensated if the Trade Token costs change.

The inclusion of Trade Tokens in events has been minimal, with only 200 available as premium rewards for Battle Pass subscribers on February 1, sufficient for trading just one 3 Diamond card. The absence of Trade Tokens in the Cresselia ex Drop Event further frustrated players, despite Creatures Inc.'s recent promise to include them.

Many fans believe the trading system is designed to boost revenue for Pokémon TCG Pocket, which reportedly earned $200 million in its first month. The inability to trade cards of 2 Star rarity or higher is seen as a tactic to encourage spending on random card packs. For instance, one player spent around $1,500 to complete the first set, and the third set was released just days ago.

Players have described the trading mechanic as "predatory and downright greedy," "hilariously toxic," and a "monumental failure," reflecting widespread dissatisfaction with the current system.
