Microsoft's AI Copilot is expanding its reach, heading to Xbox to revolutionize the gaming experience. Soon, Xbox Insiders will get a sneak peek via the Xbox mobile app. This AI chatbot, already a Windows staple, will offer a range of helpful features.
Initially, Copilot for Gaming will let you install games (a task already simplified by the app), check your play history, achievements, and game library, and even get personalized game recommendations. You can also interact with Copilot directly through the Xbox app while gaming, receiving answers much like you would on Windows.

One of the most exciting features is Copilot's potential as a gaming assistant. Similar to its PC counterpart, you'll be able to ask questions about games, such as how to beat a tough boss or solve a tricky puzzle. Copilot will then scour the web for answers from various online sources, providing you with helpful guides and walkthroughs. This functionality will soon be available directly within the Xbox app.
“Our goal is to have Copilot for Gaming source the most accurate game knowledge — so we are working with game studios to make sure the information Copilot surfaces reflects their vision, and Copilot will refer players back to the original source of the information.”
But Microsoft's ambitions extend far beyond these initial features. Future possibilities include using Copilot as a comprehensive walkthrough assistant, helping you remember item locations, offering real-time strategy advice in competitive games, and providing post-game analysis. While these are still in the conceptual stage, Microsoft is clearly committed to deeply integrating Copilot into the Xbox gaming experience. This integration will eventually encompass both first-party and third-party studios.

Regarding data privacy, Microsoft assures that Xbox Insiders will have control over their data during the preview, with options to opt out and manage data access. However, the possibility of Copilot becoming mandatory in the future remains open.
“During this preview on mobile, players will be able to decide how and when they want to interact with Copilot for Gaming, whether it has access to their conversation history, and what it does on their behalf. As we preview and test Copilot for Gaming with players early, we will continue to be transparent about what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices players have around sharing their personal data.”
Beyond player-centric features, Microsoft will unveil its plans for developer use at the Game Developers Conference next week, promising further insights into Copilot's potential.
