Civilization 7's launch has garnered mixed Steam reviews, yet Take-Two's CEO remains optimistic. While early access players, often considered hardcore fans, have voiced concerns about the user interface, limited map variety, and missing features, the CEO, Strauss Zelnick, believes these criticisms will subside with continued gameplay.

The game's current Steam user review rating is "mixed," with players highlighting UI issues and a lack of map diversity. However, Zelnick points to a Metacritic score of 81 and numerous reviews exceeding 90 as evidence of the game's overall quality. He acknowledges the negative feedback, including a harsh Eurogamer review, but maintains that the core Civilization fanbase will eventually appreciate the innovative changes.

Firaxis is actively addressing player feedback, promising UI improvements, the addition of team-based multiplayer, and increased map variety. Zelnick highlights the significant changes introduced in Civ 7, particularly the three-age campaign structure with simultaneous Age Transitions, involving civilization selection and Legacy retention. This novel system, while initially met with some apprehension, is expected to win over players with time.

Despite the positive outlook, Firaxis faces the challenge of improving Steam user reviews. A strong Steam rating is vital for the game's success, impacting both public perception and platform visibility. The developer's responsiveness to player concerns will be key in turning the tide of opinion and ensuring Civilization 7's long-term success.
