Dune: Awakening Developers Explain Sandworm Behavior

Dune: Awakening's sandworms: a force of nature, not a player tool. Unlike in Frank Herbert's novels, players cannot summon sandworms at will. The game's sandworms are independent NPCs with programmed patrol routes and behaviors. While actions like moving through the sand or using a thumper might attract a nearby sandworm, there's no guarantee.

The developers have confirmed that riding sandworms, a key element of Freman culture in the books and films, will not be a feature in the initial release. This decision was reportedly influenced by the Dune film franchise.

Future updates may add Freman-related content, potentially including sandworm riding, but this remains unconfirmed.

Dune: Awakening launches on PC May 20th, with console releases to follow.
