Marvel's upcoming Vision Quest series is reportedly resurrecting a villain from the very first MCU film, Iron Man.

Deadline reports that Faran Tahir will reprise his role as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar, the Afghan terrorist leader who held Tony Stark captive in the opening scenes of the 2008 film. His betrayal by Obadiah Stane marked his last appearance until now, almost two decades later.

This unexpected return mirrors the reappearance of Samuel Sterns from The Incredible Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World. While Vision Quest, starring Paul Bettany as White Vision, has no confirmed release date, al-Wazar's inclusion promises intrigue.

Initially portrayed as a generic terrorist leader, al-Wazar's backstory was significantly enriched in Phase 4. The revelation that his group was connected to the Ten Rings, a detail initially a subtle nod to comic book lore, was significantly expanded upon in 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

This retroactive inclusion of al-Wazar as a Ten Rings commander opens the possibility of a connection between Vision Quest and Shang-Chi, given the latter's open-ended narrative.

However, Vision Quest might also follow in the footsteps of Deadpool & Wolverine, exploring previously overlooked or discarded elements of the MCU, much like the latter film did with the Fox Marvel universe.

The series will also reportedly feature the return of James Spader as Ultron, marking his first MCU appearance since Avengers: Age of Ultron. Details about the show remain scarce.
