ScratchJr: Unleash Your Child's Creativity Through Coding (Ages 5-7)
ScratchJr is a user-friendly programming language designed for young children (ages 5 and up) to create interactive stories and games. Kids use colorful, graphical blocks to program characters, making them move, jump, dance, and sing. They can even customize characters with a built-in paint editor, add their own voices and sounds, and insert photos – bringing their creations to life!
Inspired by the popular Scratch language, ScratchJr features a simplified interface and programming language perfectly suited for younger learners. It's carefully designed to align with children's cognitive, social, and emotional development.
We believe coding is a crucial skill, akin to literacy. Just as writing helps organize thoughts and express ideas, coding does the same. ScratchJr empowers children to create and express themselves using technology, not just interact with it. Through coding, they develop problem-solving skills, project design abilities, and essential sequencing skills vital for future academic success. Math and language are integrated seamlessly, fostering early numeracy and literacy development. With ScratchJr, coding becomes a powerful tool for learning.
ScratchJr is a collaborative project involving Tufts University, the MIT Media Lab, and the Playful Invention Company. Two Sigma contributed to the Android version. HvingtQuatre Company and Sarah Thomson created the app's engaging visuals.
This free app is available for tablets 7 inches or larger, running Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) or higher. If you enjoy ScratchJr, please consider supporting the Scratch Foundation (http://www.scratchfoundation.org).
