High-end prebuilt PCs come with a hefty price tag, but savvy shoppers can still snag significant savings with the right deals. Currently, Dell is slashing $1,000 off the Alienware Aurora R16 equipped with a GeForce RTX 4090, bringing the price down to just $2,899.99. This marks the first time in months that an RTX 4090 gaming PC has been available for under $3,000. With standalone RTX 4090 graphics cards now climbing back to over $2,000 from reputable sellers, building your own PC might not be as cost-effective as you think. Opting for a prebuilt system also offers the added benefit of a comprehensive warranty.

This Alienware Aurora R16 gaming PC boasts an Intel Core i9-14900KF CPU, a GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 32GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 2TB NVMe SSD. The 14th Gen Intel Core i9-14900KF is currently the top-tier Intel gaming CPU and excels in productivity as well. While it tends to run hot, it's effectively cooled by a robust 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler. The system is powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.
The RTX 4090 stands unrivaled as the most powerful GPU available today. Chris Coke's review of the RTX 4090 praises it, stating, "The RTX 4090 may be huge and expensive, but holy smokes if it doesn’t blow the competition out of the water... Until the rest of the pack can catch up, between its impressive hardware specs and its DLSS 3 AI wizardry, even the $1,599 price doesn’t seem unreasonable for the unrivaled frame rates that this card can crank out." This GPU enables you to play any game at 4K resolution with ultra settings and ray tracing, delivering high frame rates even on the most demanding new titles like Black Myth: Wukong or Warhammer Space Marine 2. It's also the preferred consumer card for AI applications, thanks to its 24GB of GDDR6X VRAM.
A note on RTX 5000 series GPUs
NVIDIA is set to launch its next-generation GPUs, starting with the RTX 5090 at the end of January. While the RTX 5090 promises superior performance, it will come at a steep price of $2,000 for the Founder's Edition, with potential availability issues. The RTX 5080, launching at $999, might also face stock challenges. Although we'll soon benchmark these cards, they will feature less VRAM (16GB compared to the 4090's 24GB) and may not immediately dethrone the 4090 as the top performer.
A note on Alienware's newest "R16" desktop chassis
The R16 represents Alienware's 2024 desktop PC design, boasting a 40% smaller volume than its predecessors. Its airflow design is both simple and effective, drawing air through side intake vents over the GPU area and a 120mm front fan, with exhaust managed by a 120mm rear fan and two 120mm top fans. The 240mm radiator for the all-in-one liquid cooling system is mounted to these top fans. Some configurations omit the liquid cooling system, but we generally recommend it due to its superior performance over Alienware's standard air cooling. Note that Dell unveiled a new Area 51 chassis at CES 2025, though it closely resembles the R16 in appearance and design.
