Smite 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular 2014 MOBA, enters its free-to-play open beta on January 14th, 2025. Following its 2024 Alpha stage, Smite 2, built using Unreal Engine 5, promises a revamped experience with new game modes, Gods, Aspects, and significant improvements. Maintaining its predecessor's core gameplay—choosing from a roster of legendary figures and Gods from various pantheons—Smite 2 expands on this foundation. Initially launching with 14 Gods, the roster will grow to nearly 50 by the end of January, offering players a diverse selection of mythological champions.
The January 14th launch marks a significant milestone, introducing Aladdin, the first God from the Tales of Arabia pantheon, as a Magical Assassin and Jungler with unique wall-running and lamp-trapping abilities. Returning favorites from the original Smite, including Mulan, Geb, Ullr, and Agni, will also be present, though with updated skillsets.
When Does the Smite 2 F2P Open Beta Begin?
- January 14, 2025
The open beta introduces a new 3v3 Joust mode, set in an Arthurian-themed arena with Teleporters and Stealth Grass for strategic gameplay. A 1v1 Duel mode will also utilize this map. The innovative Aspects system allows players to trade a God's standard abilities for powerful boons, altering gameplay significantly. For example, Athena loses her ally-shielding teleport but gains a foe-weakening one. Twenty of Smite 2's 45 Gods will feature Aspects at launch, with more to come.
Quality-of-life improvements include Role Guides, helpful new player messages, PC text chat, item store enhancements, and detailed death recaps. The first Smite 2 esports tournament finale will take place at the HyperX Arena in Las Vegas from January 17th to 19th. Smite 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
