Steam Player Count Soars After Patch 8 Release

Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) has rolled out its much-anticipated final patch, marking the end of its remarkable journey. Launched on April 15, 2025, by Larian Studios, Patch 8 is the last major update for the game. The release has sparked a significant increase in player numbers, propelling BG3 just outside Steam's top 10 most played games. Previously hovering around 60,000 concurrent players, the count has now soared to over 169,000.

Larian Studios' CEO, Swen Vincke, celebrated the player surge on Twitter (X) on April 22, emphasizing the robust mod support that allows the studio to shift focus to their next project. It's been confirmed that Larian Studios will step away from the Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) Universe, venturing into new creative territories.

Consequently, D&D's owners, Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro, will continue the Baldur’s Gate saga without Larian Studios. They are currently negotiating with other studios to potentially develop Baldur’s Gate 4.

12 New Subclasses, Photo Mode, and More!

Patch 8, announced back in November 2024 through a Steam blog post, has been meticulously crafted. It introduces 12 new subclasses, a photo mode, cross-play functionality, and an array of other enhancements.
