How to Unlock Parry in Avowed

To parry in Avowed, you'll need to unlock the ability first. Head to the menu, select "Abilities," then the "Ranger" tab. You'll find Parry in the top middle column. Unlocking it requires spending an Ability point in one of the three core skill trees. Once that's done, Parry is yours!

There are three ranks of Parry:

How to Parry Attacks in Avowed

Parrying in Avowed involves blocking just before an enemy attack connects. You'll hear a metallic clang and see a visual cue as your enemy stumbles. The timing takes practice, varying slightly between enemies, but it's less demanding than in games like Dark Souls or Elden Ring.

Parrying Isn't Always an Option

Not all attacks are parryable. Attacks indicated by a red circle require dodging instead. Furthermore, only certain weapons can parry: single-handed, two-handed weapons (not in your off-hand), and shields (in your off-hand). Ranged weapons (guns, wands, bows) and grimoires cannot parry.
