There's nothing quite like the satisfying *clang* of a perfectly timed parry in an action game, turning an enemy's attack into an opportunity for a devastating counter. If you're craving that visceral *Avowed* experience, here's how to master the art of the parry.
How to Unlock Parry in Avowed

To parry in Avowed, you'll need to unlock the ability first. Head to the menu, select "Abilities," then the "Ranger" tab. You'll find Parry in the top middle column. Unlocking it requires spending an Ability point in one of the three core skill trees. Once that's done, Parry is yours!
There are three ranks of Parry:
Rank | Player Level Requirement | Level Description |
1 | N/A (1 Point Spent) | Unlocks Parry. |
2 | Player Level 5 | Increases Parry efficiency by 25%, dealing greater Stun when Parrying enemies. |
3 | Player Level 8 | Increases Parry efficiency by 50%, dealing greater Stun when parrying enemies. |
At level 10, you can unlock "Arrow Deflection," allowing you to parry projectiles like arrows.
How to Parry Attacks in Avowed

Parrying in Avowed involves blocking just before an enemy attack connects. You'll hear a metallic clang and see a visual cue as your enemy stumbles. The timing takes practice, varying slightly between enemies, but it's less demanding than in games like Dark Souls or Elden Ring.
Parrying Isn't Always an Option
Not all attacks are parryable. Attacks indicated by a red circle require dodging instead. Furthermore, only certain weapons can parry: single-handed, two-handed weapons (not in your off-hand), and shields (in your off-hand). Ranged weapons (guns, wands, bows) and grimoires cannot parry.
What Parrying Does (and Why You'd Want It)
Parrying stuns attackers, creating an opening for significant damage. It's a fantastic defensive tool that simultaneously increases your offensive potential.
However, its effectiveness depends on your build. Melee characters benefit most, while ranged builds might find it less useful. Fortunately, respeccing in Avowed is easy, allowing you to adjust your skills as needed.
