Final Fantasy XVI's director, Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P), has politely requested fans avoid creating or installing "offensive or inappropriate" mods for the PC release.

Yoshi-P's Request: Keep Mods Respectful
In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Yoshi-P addressed the upcoming PC modding community, urging players to refrain from creating or using mods deemed "offensive or inappropriate." While PC Gamer inquired about potentially "goofy" mods, Yoshi-P focused on setting clear boundaries regarding acceptable content. He stated, "If we said 'It'd be great if someone made xyz,' it might come across as a request, so I'll avoid mentioning any specifics here! The only thing I will say is that we definitely don't want to say anything offensive or inappropriate, so please don't make or install anything like that."
Yoshi-P's experience with previous Final Fantasy titles likely exposed him to a wide range of mods, some falling outside the bounds of appropriateness. Online modding communities, such as Nexusmods and Steam, showcase a vast spectrum of modifications, from graphical enhancements to cosmetic crossovers (like the Half-Life costume mod for FFXV). However, the existence of NSFW and other potentially offensive mods is undeniable. While Yoshi-P didn't explicitly detail the types of mods he wishes to avoid, such content clearly falls under his definition of "offensive or inappropriate." Examples include mods offering "high-quality nude body mesh replacements" with enhanced textures.
Final Fantasy XVI's PC release boasts features like a 240fps frame rate cap and various upscaling technologies. With this significant upgrade, Yoshi-P simply aims to maintain a respectful and enjoyable experience for all players.
