Rebel Wolves, a studio comprised of former CD Projekt Red developers, is developing The Blood of Dawnwalker, an open-world vampire RPG aiming for the quality of The Witcher 3, albeit on a smaller scale. This article delves into the upcoming title and the director's vision.
A Focused, High-Quality Experience
In an interview with GamesRadar, Creative Director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz clarified the studio's ambition. Despite being a smaller team launching their first game, they're targeting AAA quality, specifically referencing The Witcher 3's benchmark. He addressed the common "AA" grey area, stating that while the game's scope is smaller than a typical AAA title, the quality will be comparable.
The team at Rebel Wolves, boasting veteran experience from The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, founded the studio to pursue greater creative freedom. Tomaszkiewicz emphasized that while the game will be more concise—a projected 30-40 hour main campaign—it won't compromise on quality. He countered the notion that playtime directly equates to AAA status, citing examples like Call of Duty.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is a narrative-driven, open-world dark fantasy RPG set in Vale Sangora. Players embody Coen, a peasant granted vampiric powers, embarking on a quest to save his sister while navigating the dangers of this mystical land.
Currently, there's no confirmed release date, but the game is planned for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a gameplay reveal anticipated in Summer 2025.
