"Skyblivion: Oblivion Fan Remake in Skyrim's Engine Aims for Release This Year"

Author: Max Mar 29,2025

Skyblivion, the ambitious fan-made project that remakes The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion within the engine of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is steadfastly on course for a 2025 release. In a recent developer update stream, the dedicated team of volunteer developers reaffirmed their commitment to this target, showcasing the extensive work that has already been accomplished. This project is nothing short of a AAA-scale modding endeavor, representing years of tireless effort and passion from its creators.

During the stream, the team expressed optimism about meeting or even surpassing their 2025 goal, stating, "We hope with your support to finish the final steps in completing our dream, maybe even beating our own estimation." This enthusiasm is backed by the substantial progress they've made, as evidenced by the stunning visuals and gameplay enhancements demonstrated.

Describing Skyblivion as merely a one-to-one remake would be an understatement. The developers are going above and beyond to enhance the original game, from making "unique items actually unique" to revamping existing bosses to better reflect their fearsome reputations, with Mannimarco being a notable example. The team showcased the revamped "A Brush with Death" quest during their livestream, and the updated painted world is nothing short of breathtaking.

The project's allure is further heightened by the backdrop of rumors about an official Oblivion remake. Earlier this year, alleged details emerged about potential changes to combat and other aspects of the game. Microsoft, however, declined to comment on these rumors to IGN. Additionally, in 2023, documents inadvertently published during the Activision Blizzard/FTC trial hinted at an Oblivion remaster, alongside other projects like an Indiana Jones game and a Fallout 3 remaster. While some of these projects have since been released, the status of the Oblivion and Fallout 3 remasters remains unconfirmed.

Should Microsoft and Bethesda decide to relaunch Oblivion, the extensive fan mod like Skyblivion could face unforeseen challenges. Bethesda's games have a long-standing tradition of embracing modding communities, from older titles to the more recent Starfield. However, the team hopes to navigate any potential obstacles smoothly, avoiding the fate of projects like Fallout London, which encountered issues just before launch.
