Shrek 5 has unveiled its new cast in a brand-new teaser trailer, prompting even Movie Sonic to offer some unsolicited design advice.

IGN's exclusive first look at the 2018 live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie sparked significant debate, with fans expressing mixed reactions to the character's initial design. The character's teeth, physique, small eyes, and human-like fingers were among the most frequently cited concerns.

Following the negative feedback, director Jeff Fowler redesigned the iconic character, delivering a more faithful adaptation that was significantly better received.

While the reaction to Shrek's new look is less intense than the initial Sonic backlash, Sonic's playful response has entertained fans. Comments included, "You know it's bad when you see the Sonic Movie account giving Shrek 5 advice," and "No way they actually posted this" accompanied by a crying emoji.

Initially announced in 2016, the fifth Shrek movie remained relatively quiet until Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, confirmed its development in 2023, along with hints at a potential Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures shifted Shrek 5's release date to December 23, 2026, moving it from the original slot now occupied by the Minions 3 spin-off.
