PS5 Update Enhances Functionality

Sony's latest PlayStation 5 beta update follows the recent URL game session sharing feature, introducing several quality-of-life improvements. This article details the update's key features and beta participation.

Enhanced PS5 Experience: Key Beta Update Features

Announced by Sony's VP of Product Management, Hiromi Wakai, the beta update boasts personalized 3D audio profiles, improved Remote Play controls, and adaptive charging for controllers (on the slim PS5 model).

Personalized 3D audio allows users to tailor audio settings to their hearing, creating a more immersive gaming experience with compatible headsets like the Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore. This is achieved through sound quality tests that generate a custom audio profile.

The enhanced Remote Play settings provide greater control over remote access to the PS5, allowing primary users to restrict access to specific individuals. This is managed within the console's settings menu: Settings > System > Remote Play > Enable Remote Play.

Adaptive charging for controllers on the new PS5 model optimizes power consumption by adjusting charging based on battery level while the console is in rest mode. Users can enable this in Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode > Supply Power to USB Ports > Adaptive.

Beta Availability and Global Rollout

Currently, the beta is limited to invited participants in select regions (U.S., Canada, Japan, U.K., Germany, and France). Invited users will receive an email with download instructions. Sony plans a global release in the coming months. Note that features may change or be removed based on beta feedback.

Wakai highlighted the importance of community feedback in shaping these updates, emphasizing Sony's commitment to improving the PS5 experience based on player input.

Building Upon Previous Updates

This update builds on the recently released Version 24.05-09.60.00 update, which introduced URL sharing for open game sessions. This allows players to share a link (via QR code) to invite others to join. The new beta further enhances the PS5 experience with personalized features and improved control.
