Fans of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket have been reveling in its stunning card art for months, but a recent discovery has added a new layer of excitement. It turns out that some of the game's cards contain hidden details that link them directly to the iconic Game Boy titles.

The buzz started over the weekend when Reddit user asch_win highlighted a Spearow card that features subtle nods to Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. The card's background showcases a scene that includes grass, a fence, trees, and two buildings. Astute fans quickly recognized the purple and yellow building as the Celadon City Department Store from these classic games. Positioned just to the left of Celadon City, Route 16 in the Kanto region features a fenced-in grassy area where players can encounter Spearow, perfectly aligning with the card's setting.

It's clear that developers Creatures Inc. and DeNA have intentionally woven these references into the card art, paying homage to the origins of the Pokémon franchise. The fun doesn't stop with Spearow, however. Another Reddit user, jteede, uncovered additional connections to early games, such as a full-art Diglett card set east of Vermillion City and a Haunter card near the eerie Lavender Town tower. Asch_win further examined Supporter cards and discovered they also reference specific locations from Pokémon lore.

While many card illustrations depict Pokémon in fantastical, dreamlike settings, some cards, including a notable Pikachu variant, are recognizable as collectibles from the real world. Others are unique to Pokémon TCG Pocket, making them a treasure trove for players eager to find these cleverly hidden Easter Eggs.

The Pokémon TCG Pocket community has been buzzing with excitement, meticulously examining other cards for more references. Notable finds include the S.S. Anne cruise liner subtly featured on a Gyarados full-art card, and a trio of Oddish, Venonat, and Bellsprout cards that together narrate a story set by the seaside Snorlax location from FireRed and LeafGreen.

Since its launch in October, Pokémon TCG Pocket has seen the release of one additional booster expansion set, Mythical Island, bringing the total to four packs available. More sets are anticipated to be released in the future, with new cards often added through Wonder Pick Events and other updates. As Creatures and DeNA continue to introduce cards from various generations, players are encouraged to stay vigilant for more hidden references.

In the meantime, fans can delve into the current Wonder Pick event, which spotlights Charmander and Squirtle. Additionally, there's intrigue around why the developers are being coy about whether pack choice matters, adding another layer of mystery and engagement to the game.
