The Pokémon Company has confirmed it currently has no plans to include Pokémon TCG Pocket in its competitive circuit. This article explores the reasons behind this decision and looks ahead to the game's future.
Pokémon TCG Pocket: No Competitive Scene (Yet)
No Immediate Competitive Plans
In a recent interview with VGC (February 25, 2025), Chris Brown, Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, stated that while they constantly evaluate potential additions to their competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't currently on the roadmap. He lightheartedly mentioned Pokémon Sleep as another example of a title not currently considered for competitive play, emphasizing that their focus remains elsewhere for now.
Early Stages and Balancing Concerns
While no official reasons have been given, speculation points to the game's relative youth (only four months old with two sets released since its October 2024 launch) and ongoing balancing issues. Although Pokémon TCG Pocket includes competitive features, players have voiced concerns about the game's balance. Its simplified mechanics, designed for a more accessible, beginner-friendly experience, may also contribute to the decision to postpone competitive integration.
The Pokémon Competitive Circuit remains robust, featuring Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all culminating in the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim, California, August 2025.
