The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) sets a new Guinness World Record! A 24-hour livestream marathon resulted in the opening of over 20,000 cards, a monumental achievement. This incredible feat was accomplished with the help of popular online personalities.
A Record-Breaking Livestream
On November 26th, 2024, The Pokémon Company International shattered the Guinness World Record for the longest unboxing livestream, celebrating the release of the Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks expansion. The event, streamed on Pokémon's Twitch channel, featured prominent figures such as Serebii's Joe Merrick, PokeGirl Ranch, and Mayplaystv. These influencers opened thousands of booster packs and other Pokémon products, accumulating over 20,000 cards in a single, marathon session.
Peter Murphy, Senior Director of Marketing at The Pokémon Company International, expressed his pride in this accomplishment, highlighting the collaborative effort with content creators. While the livestream concluded, the Pokémon Company promises further giveaways on participating creators' channels within the following two weeks. The amassed cards will be donated to charities like Barnardo's in the UK.
Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks: A New Expansion
Launched on November 8th, 2024, Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks transports players to the Terarium, a key location in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC, The Indigo Disk. This expansion introduces Stellar Tera Pokémon ex, including the defensively powerful Archaludon ex. Iconic Dragon-type Pokémon like Palkia, Dialga, Eternatus, Alolan Exeggutor ex, and Tatsugiri ex also make appearances. The expansion features visually stunning Illustration Rare and Special Illustration Rare cards, showcasing serene ocean scenes. New Tera Pokémon ex cards, such as Pallossand ex and Flygon ex, add exciting options for players' decks.
