Path of Exile 2: Mastering the Ritual League

Author: Logan Jan 20,2025

Path of Exile 2's Atlas offers four major endgame encounters: Breaches, Expeditions, Delirium, and Rituals. Rituals, drawing inspiration from the original Path of Exile's Ritual League, are a significant endgame event. This guide details initiating Ritual events, key mechanics, the Ritual Passive Skill Tree, the Pinnacle boss encounter (The King in the Mists), and the unique Tribute and Favour reward system.

Understanding PoE 2 Rituals and Altars

Atlas map nodes guaranteeing endgame events are marked with specific icons. Ritual Altar nodes display a red pentagram icon with a demonic face. A Ritual Precursor Tablet, slotted into a completed Lost Tower, guarantees a Ritual encounter on a chosen node.

Maps with Ritual encounters feature several Altars. Each map features a shared random modifier altering the event's mechanics or enemies. Modifiers might include massive rat swarms, or life-draining blood pools.

Examine an Altar's modifiers before interaction. Activating an Altar unleashes a large enemy wave. Remain within the designated circle; venturing into the shadows ends the event without rewards. A map is considered complete upon successful completion of all its Rituals.

The King in the Mists: Ritual Pinnacle Boss

'An Audience With The King,' a unique Ritual currency item, unlocks The Crux of Nothingness, home to the King in the Mists. Slot this item into your Realmgate on the Atlas map to access the fight.

The King in the Mists shares mechanics with his Act 1 Cruel counterpart (Freythorn zone). Defeating him awards 2 Ritual Passive Skill points, a chance at event-exclusive Uniques, powerful Currencies, and Omen items.

Ritual Passive Skill Tree

The Ritual Passive Skill Tree, accessible from the Atlas Passive Skill Tree (bottom right), enhances Ritual rewards. Nodes reduce Tribute requirements, improve rewards, and boost unique Currency drop rates.

The tree features eight Notable nodes and eight nodes increasing King in the Mists difficulty. Each King in the Mists victory grants 2 skill points, necessitating increased difficulty for each new Notable node.

Notable Ritual Passive Nodes:

Notable Node Effect Requirements
Promised Devotion 25% increased Altar skill damage; 50% less Tribute, 50% faster Favour appearance N/A
From The Mists 2 extra enemy packs N/A
Reinvigorated Sacrifices Revived monsters gain 20% Toughness, deal 10% more damage; Tribute penalty removed From The Mists
Spreading Darkness Always 4 Ritual Altars N/A
Between Two Worlds Always includes a Wildwood Wisp (increased Tribute) Spreading Darkness
Ominous Portents 25% faster monster waves, 50% increased Omen chance in Favours N/A
He Approaches 20% chance for Magic/Rare revived monsters; 50% chance for 'An Audience With The King' Ominous Portents
Tempting Offers Extra Favour re-roll; 25% less Tribute for re-rolling N/A

Prioritize 'From The Mists,' 'Spreading Darkness,' and 'Ominous Portents' initially. Then, focus on 'Tempting Offers' and 'He Approaches' for enhanced Omen and 'An Audience With The King' chances.

PoE 2 Ritual Event Rewards

Completed Rituals award Tribute, a temporary currency exchanged for Favours (randomized items). More Altars completed increase Tribute and unlock more Favours, including Rare gear and high-tier Currencies at higher completion levels. 'An Audience With The King' is exclusively a Favour reward.

Favours initially offer Magic items or low-level Currencies, progressing to Rare gear and high-tier Currencies. Omens, powerful items enhancing other Currency effects, are possible Favour rewards. Omens are consumed upon use.

Ritual Events also yield high-tier Currencies (Exalted Orbs, Vaal Orbs, etc.). The King in the Mists has a chance to drop event-exclusive Uniques.
