MultiVersus to Shut Down After Season 5

Warner Bros. Games has announced the upcoming closure of MultiVersus. The popular platform fighter will end its run on May 30, 2025, following the completion of its fifth and final season.

MultiVersus Season 5: The Final Showdown

On January 31, 2025, the official MultiVersus Twitter (X) account delivered the news: Season 5, launching February 4, 2025, will be the game's last. A blog post on the official website confirmed this, stating that Season 5 will be the final content update. This final season will introduce two highly anticipated characters: Aquaman from DC and Lola Bunny from Looney Tunes. Both will be earnable through gameplay. After May 30th, MultiVersus will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. No official reason for the shutdown has been given.

Offline Play: A Lasting Legacy

While online servers will close, players can continue enjoying MultiVersus offline. Beginning February 4th (9 AM PST) and lasting until the shutdown on May 30th (9 AM PDT), players can download the latest version of the game. This version will allow for local gameplay, either solo against AI or with up to three friends. Upon logging in, a local save file will be automatically created, preserving all earned and purchased content linked to your PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store account.

Real-money transactions for Gleamium, the in-game premium currency, ceased on January 31, 2025. However, any remaining Gleamium can be used until the end of Season 5.

A Brief History and a Farewell

MultiVersus launched its public beta in July 2022, quickly gaining popularity as a free-to-play fighting game. Following a relaunch in May 2024 with significant updates (new characters, rollback netcode, a PvE mode, and revised currencies), the game faced challenges including technical issues and reported player decline.

By the time of its closure, MultiVersus will boast a roster of 35 playable characters from diverse franchises. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support.

MultiVersus remains available for download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until May 30, 2025, at 9 AM PDT. MultiVersus is Shutting Down After Its 5th SeasonMultiVersus is Shutting Down After Its 5th Season
