Some Marvel Rivals Players Are Risking Bans

NetEase Games Issues Warning: Marvel Rivals Modders Face Potential Bans

NetEase Games, developer and publisher of the popular team shooter Marvel Rivals, has issued a stern warning to players utilizing modifications. The company explicitly stated that any form of modding, from cosmetic alterations to performance-enhancing add-ons, violates the game's terms of service and risks permanent account bans.

This announcement follows the launch of Season 1, which introduced new content including the Fantastic Four's Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic. Despite attempts to counter modding through in-game checks (asset hash verification), workarounds quickly emerged. Reports from IGN detail a mod on Nexus Mods that bypasses these checks, prompting NetEase Games' warning. The mod's creator, Prafit, openly acknowledges the risk of bans associated with its use. Further highlighting the issue, another mod – transforming Mister Fantastic into One Piece's Luffy – circulated on social media.

While the extent of bans issued remains undisclosed, NetEase Games emphasizes the strict prohibition of modifications, cheats, and hacks within their terms of service. Although some mods, including one featuring Donald Trump, have been removed from platforms like Nexus Mods, Prafit's workaround persists, boasting over 500 downloads.

Despite past instances of erroneous bans, NetEase Games has clearly defined the consequences of violating the terms of service. The future impact of this warning and the potential for further action remains to be seen. Marvel Rivals, nominated for Online Game of the Year at the upcoming DICE Awards 2025, continues to enjoy significant popularity.
