Conquer the Oilwell Basin's apex predator, the ancient Black Flame—also known as Nu Udra—in Monster Hunter Wilds. This formidable beast threatens the village, and its defeat is crucial to its safety.
Nu Udra: Habitat, Weak Points, and Effective Strategies
Known Habitats: Oilwell Basin
Breakable Parts: Head and Arms
Recommended Elemental Attack: Water
Effective Status Effects: Poison (2x), Sleep (2x), Paralysis (1x), Blastblight (1x), Stun (2x), Exhaust (2x)
Effective Items: Pitfall Trap, Shock Trap
Taming the Tentacles: Melee Combat
Nu Udra's massive tentacles present a significant challenge in Monster Hunter Wilds. Their wide reach makes dodging difficult, but they also offer a prime target for melee weapons. Severing its arms yields valuable materials, but caution is advised—these limbs pack a powerful punch.
Ranged Assault: Targeting the Mouth
Ranged weapon users have more tactical options. While Nu Udra's pitch-black skin makes its mouth difficult to spot, it's the optimal target, boasting a 4-star weakness. The head is a viable alternative, with a 3-star weakness to ammo damage, but remains effective for blunt and cut damage.
Harnessing the Power of Watermoss
Nu Udra possesses a fire affinity, unleashing fiery attacks alongside its powerful limbs. It even ignites itself, inflicting the dangerous Fireblight debuff. Counter this by strategically deploying Watermoss to mitigate fire damage and safely engage the beast.
Defensive Measures: Fire Resistance is Key
Struggling against Nu Udra's fiery assaults? Equip fire-resistant gear. The Quematrice armor set, with its Fire Resistance skill, is highly recommended. Enhance your defenses further with decorations that reduce elemental damage, such as the Fire Res Jewel or the Stream Jewel (for increased Water Attack).
Avoiding the Grasp: Countering Nu Udra's Grab Attack
Nu Udra's grab attack is particularly perilous. If caught within its tentacles, it unleashes a fiery blast. Swiftly use a knife to escape, or exploit the brief pause with a Slinger attack on its weak point.

Capturing Nu Udra: A Strategic Approach
To capture Nu Udra, prepare either a Pitfall or Shock Trap. However, deployment requires weakening the monster until its health is critically low (indicated by a skull icon). Lure it into the trap using meat or strategically position yourself behind it as it targets you. Once trapped, swiftly use a Tranquilizer to subdue it—you have approximately five seconds before it breaks free.
Defeating and capturing Nu Udra presents a significant challenge, even for seasoned hunters. Don't hesitate to utilize multiplayer for a more manageable encounter.
Monster Hunter Wilds is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
