How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To begin your romantic journey with Caldarus in Fields of Mistria, you must first break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. To do this, gather and offer four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Upon completing the offering, a cutscene will play where the Mines Priestess warns you to leave or risk being sealed. As your health depletes, Caldarus appears, taking on his human form and leaving you with the Dragon’s Breath spell before retreating to the Deep Woods.

With Caldarus now in human form, you can interact with him daily, just as you would with other romanceable NPCs in Mistria. After breaking the Fire Seal, you'll find him at his temple in the Deep Woods, accessible only with the Dragon’s Breath spell, which permanently unlocks this area on your map.

Caldarus’ Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

With the March 2025 update, Caldarus starts with six hearts upon being unlocked as a romanceable character. Currently, this is the heart level cap, meaning there are no additional heart events available yet. However, future updates are expected to expand on this.

Caldarus is involved in a few key cutscenes. The first is a dream sequence that introduces the game's magic system and mechanics. The second occurs after breaking the Fire Seal, where Caldarus rescues you and transforms into his human form before retreating to recover.

Additionally, with the new update, you can now trigger a date with Caldarus at the Shooting Star Festival on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival

The Shooting Star Festival, held on Summer 28, marks the end of summer in Fields of Mistria. You can invite any romanceable NPC with at least four hearts to the Summit to watch the stars. With Caldarus starting at six hearts, you're set to attend with him. To do so, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on the day of the festival and meet up afterward to start your date.

During your date at the Summit, Caldarus will express gratitude for the invitation and discuss the stars and the ancient Mistrian tradition of Starbinding. You'll explore topics about soul connections and the nature of relationships, with Caldarus hinting at past lives and the necessity of villains in stories. The evening concludes with an invitation to watch the stars from his temple.
