This astronomy and weather toolkit, Astroweather, is a specialized weather forecast service designed for stargazing. It leverages data from 7timer.org, incorporating astronomical weather predictions and precise sunset/sunrise, moonrise/moonset times.
Astroweather utilizes web-based meteorological forecasts primarily sourced from the NOAA/NCEP Global Forecast System (GFS) numerical weather model.
Initially launched in July 2005 as a project supported by the National Astronomical Observatories of China, 7Timer! underwent significant upgrades in 2008 and 2011. Currently, it receives support from the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Its creation stemmed from the author's personal frustration with unpredictable weather impacting astronomical observations.
Astroweather offers a range of additional services:
- Forecasts of astronomical events.
- Light pollution maps and satellite imagery.
- Rise and set times for stars, planets, moons, and satellites.
- An active astronomy forum.
