Exclusive: Sony To Adapt 'Helldivers 2' & 'Horizon Zero Dawn' Into Films

Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are teaming up for a big-screen adaptation of the hit video game, Helldivers 2. The exciting announcement was made at CES 2025 by PlayStation Productions head, Asad Qizilbash. While specifics remain under wraps, Qizilbash confirmed the project's commencement, promising fans spectacular space battles.

Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a captivating shooter reminiscent of Starship Troopers. Its phenomenal success is undeniable, having achieved the remarkable feat of selling 12 million copies within its first 12 weeks, a record for PlayStation Studios. The recent Illuminate update, reintroducing enemies from the original Helldivers, further fueled its popularity.

Adding to the excitement, a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a joint venture between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures – the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie. Qizilbash offered a sneak peek, stating, "We're in the early stages of the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can assure audiences that this world and its characters will receive a truly cinematic presentation for the very first time."
