In the initial stages of *Avowed*'s main quest, the Envoy becomes the victim of a tragic assassination. After unraveling the mystery of your own murder with the help of Kai and Marius in Paradis, you'll pinpoint Ygwulf, a member of the Paradisan Rebels, as your assassin. These rebels fiercely oppose Aedyr's influence in the region, making the Envoy, as the emperor's representative, a prime target.
Your journey leads you to Ygwulf's underground hideout, requiring you to clear out numerous enemies and navigate some platforming challenges. Make sure to stock up on Health Potions and equip your best gear before venturing in. As you explore, you may uncover documents that shed light on Ygwulf's true intentions and his subsequent remorse. He initially believed his actions were divinely ordained, but later realizes his error and expresses regret. Whether you find these documents or not, Ygwulf will share his story and his willingness to face justice when you confront him at the quest's conclusion.
What Happens If You Spare Ygwulf or He Turns Himself In? Answered
Opting for Ygwulf to turn himself in to the Inquisitor of the Steel Garrote is not advisable. This choice leads him to the brutal Inquisitor Lödwyn, likely resulting in a painful death. Additionally, this option yields fewer rewards compared to sparing him or defeating him in combat. If you choose mercy and spare Ygwulf, he will offer you 625 Copper Skeyt and some Adra as a token of gratitude. Although these resources won't drastically change your game, they can be useful. However, even if spared, Ygwulf's fate remains sealed, and he will eventually meet his end within the story.
Here’s Why You Should Kill Ygwulf in Avowed
Given Ygwulf's inevitable demise, choosing the Attack option during your confrontation is the most beneficial choice. This decision initiates a boss fight, serving as excellent practice for future encounters in *Avowed*. Moreover, defeating Ygwulf grants you the best loot among the three options. After the battle, you can loot his body for currency, Adra, and the unique Blackwing armor set. This armor not only looks impressive but also offers significant advantages, including a +30% Damage boost when attacking from stealth and a 25% Movement Speed increase when crouching, enhancing your ability to sneak past enemies.
Does Ygwulf’s Fate Affect the Story in Avowed? SPOILER WARNING
Despite encountering Ygwulf early in the game, his fate subtly influences the ending of *Avowed*. After completing the final gameplay section, you'll witness an art and narration sequence that highlights how your decisions have impacted the world of Eora in the Living Lands. Regardless of your efforts to unify and bring peace to the region, Ygwulf's death will always occur, radicalizing the Paradisan Rebellion and ensuring their continued violent opposition to your endeavors post-credits.
