Cattle Country, a soon-to-be-released Steam game, promises a Wild West twist on the popular farming and life sim genre, drawing comparisons to Stardew Valley. While Stardew Valley offers diverse money-making opportunities on the farm, Cattle Country appears to offer a similar experience, but with a distinctly western theme.
Developed by Castle Pixel (creators of Rex Rocket and Blossom Tales 2: The Minotaur Prince), Cattle Country marks their first foray into farming sims. Described as a "Cozy Cowboy Adventure Life Sim," the game blends familiar farming mechanics with a unique setting. Players will build a mountain home, contribute to the town's development, and forge friendships with villagers, echoing key elements of the cozy life sim genre.
What Makes Cattle Country Unique?
The game's most striking feature is its Old West setting. The reveal trailer showcases scenes of nighttime cattle herding by campfire light, and a horse-drawn wagon traversing dusty roads. Further gameplay footage on the Steam page reveals more action-oriented elements, including old west shootouts and bare-knuckle brawls. Mining, presented in a 2D Terraria-style format, adds another dimension to the gameplay.
Familiar farming activities like planting, harvesting, using scarecrows, and chopping trees are present. The game also features festivals reminiscent of Stardew Valley, but with unique twists, such as a Santa Claus-led Christmas feast and a traditional square dance.
While a release date remains unannounced, Cattle Country is available for wishlisting on Steam.
