10-Minute Pre-Order Trailer Showcases New Characters and Gameplay
Kojima Productions and Sony unveiled the release date for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach (DS2) during the South by Southwest (SXSW) event on March 9, 2025, in Austin, Texas. The panel, led by DS2 Director Hideo Kojima, began with a captivating 10-minute trailer that offered new glimpses into the game's story and gameplay. The trailer reaffirmed the sequel's focus on human connectivity within a post-apocalyptic setting.
Kojima was accompanied by PlayStation’s Global Content Communications Manager Kristen Zitan, as well as DS2 actors Norman Reedus, reprising his role as Sam Porter Bridges, Troy Baker, and French Music Director and Designer Woodkid. The trailer also introduced a new character, Neil, portrayed by Luca Marinelli, who leads a mysterious faction. Fans were quick to note Neil's resemblance to Metal Gear's Solid Snake, particularly due to the similar headband.
This resemblance was not lost on Kojima, who in a July 2020 Instagram post, acknowledged that Marinelli, when wearing a bandana, strikingly resembles Solid Snake. The new faction led by Neil appears set to play a significant role in the narrative of Death Stranding 2.
