No Snooze? You Lose! SF6 Tournament “Sleep Fighter” Requires You to Rest

A unique Street Fighter 6 tournament, dubbed "Sleep Fighter," is demanding participants prioritize sleep in the lead-up to the competition. Organized by SS Pharmaceuticals to promote their sleep aid, Drewell, this Capcom-backed event emphasizes the connection between rest and peak performance.

The team-based tournament awards points for match wins and "Sleep Points" based on each player's logged sleep hours. Teams must accumulate a minimum of 126 hours of sleep (six hours per player per night) in the week before the tournament. Falling short results in a five-point penalty per deficient hour. The team logging the most sleep gains the advantage of choosing match conditions.

This initiative, under the banner "Let's Do the Challenge, Let's Sleep First," aims to raise sleep awareness in Japan. The Sleep Fighter tournament marks a pioneering move in esports, uniquely penalizing insufficient sleep.

The event takes place on August 31st at Ryogoku KFC Hall in Tokyo, with limited in-person attendance determined by lottery. Live streaming on YouTube and Twitch will cater to a global audience, with broadcast details forthcoming on the official website and X (formerly Twitter) account.

A stellar lineup of professional players and streamers, including two-time EVO champion "Itazan" Itabashi Zangief and top SF player Dogura, will participate in this innovative competition blending gaming prowess with the importance of sleep. The tournament promises a compelling blend of competitive gaming and a focus on sleep wellness.
