Robert Eggers, renowned for his gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the beloved fantasy classic, Labyrinth.

According to Variety, Eggers will helm this new installment, writing the screenplay alongside his The Northman collaborator, Sjón. This follows a previous attempt at a sequel with Scott Derrickson (director of Sinister) attached, but with no progress since 2023, TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have opted for Eggers' vision.

PlayThe original 1986 Labyrinth, starring David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth and Jennifer Connelly, follows a young girl's journey into a fantastical world to rescue her kidnapped baby brother. She is aided by a troupe of Jim Henson's iconic puppets.

Eggers' involvement with Labyrinth isn't his only upcoming project. He's also directing a werewolf movie titled Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Set in 13th-century England, the film will feature dialogue in Old English.

Nosferatu, Eggers' recent Christmas release, is a remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film. The story, set in 19th-century Germany, centers on a real estate agent whose dealings with a Transylvanian count unleash terrifying vampiric consequences.

Nosferatu garnered four Oscar nominations: Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. A review of Nosferatu can be found here.
