Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid requires more than just finding a suitable location; it demands robust defenses. This guide details how to construct basic but effective window barricades, a crucial step in fortifying your safehouse.
How to Barricade Windows in Project Zomboid
To board up your windows, you'll need a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you've gathered these supplies, right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window supports up to four planks for increased protection.
Hammers and nails are commonly found in real-world locations like toolboxes, garages, and sheds. Planks are frequently located on construction sites, or can be salvaged by dismantling wooden furniture (shelves, chairs, etc.) in a pinch. Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command to spawn items directly.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie access. The more planks installed, the longer it takes for the undead to breach the defense. To remove planks, right-click them and select "Remove." Note that you'll need a claw hammer or crowbar for this task.
Larger furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) cannot be effectively used as window barriers; characters and zombies will pass right through them. While ineffective for defense, knowing how to move furniture remains a useful skill for interior design purposes.
More advanced barricades using metal bars or sheets require sufficient Metalworking skill.
