Persona 5: The Phantom X Global Launch on the Horizon?
SEGA's recent financial report hints at a potential global release for Persona 5: The Phantom X (P5X). The report indicates that the game's performance in its initial launch regions is meeting expectations, and a wider release in Japan and globally is under consideration.
Currently in Open Beta, Limited Regions
Licensed by Atlus, P5X initially launched in a limited open beta. The mobile and PC title debuted in China on April 12, 2024, followed by Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, and Taiwan on April 18. Perfect World Games (South Korea) publishes the game, developed by their subsidiary, Black Wings Game Studio (China).
Players control a new silent protagonist, "Wonder," a high school student by day and a Persona-wielding Phantom Thief by night. Wonder's team includes the original Joker from Persona 5 and a new character, YUI. Their mission: to combat societal injustices.
Wonder initially wields the Persona Janosik, inspired by Slovakian folklore and embodying a Robin Hood-esque persona.
P5X retains the core elements of the Persona series: turn-based combat, social simulation, and dungeon crawling. However, it introduces a gacha system for character acquisition.
New Roguelike Mode: Heart Rail
A new roguelike game mode, "Heart Rail," has been added. Gameplay showcases reveal similarities to Honkai: Star Rail's Simulated Universe, featuring power-up selection, map exploration, and stage completion rewards.
SEGA's Strong Performance and Future Plans
SEGA reported strong sales for several titles, including Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Persona 3 Reload, and Football Manager 2024. The company is restructuring its business, creating a new "Gaming Business" segment with a focus on expanding its online gaming presence in North America.
