Capcom unveiled new gameplay footage of its upcoming action game, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The trailer, premiered at the PlayStation State of Play, showcases exciting sword-based combat and formidable enemies. Most notably, the game stars the legendary Japanese swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi.
The trailer offers a glimpse into Musashi's unparalleled swordsmanship, but also reveals a more playful, comedic side to his personality. Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most famous historical figures. Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the iconic Toshiro Mifune, renowned for his samurai film roles.
The game is set in a Kyoto overrun by Malic, an evil force summoning hellish creatures into Japan. Onimusha: Way of the Sword marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
