Steady Progress on The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed Says Obsidian Entertainment CEOObsidian Entertainment Confident About Upcoming New Releases
In a recent interview with Limit Break Network on YouTube, Urquhart expressed his confidence in the team developing The Outer Worlds 2. "I’m impressed with the team," he said. "We have many people on that game that get it—who have worked on the first one and have been with us for a long time. So I’ve actually been really impressed by it."
Urquhart also noted the difficulties the studio faced, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, and after being acquired by Microsoft. Development on multiple titles, including Grounded and Pentiment at the time, stretched the team thin during that period. "We were kind of a subpar developer for about a year, year and a half," he admitted. At one point, there were discussions of halting work on The Outer Worlds 2 altogether and reallocating the team to Avowed. However, the studio ultimately decided to maintain the original plan and continue developing all the games.
Regarding the decision to persevere, Urquhart observed that Grounded and Pentiment "turned out fantastic" and shared that Avowed is "looking excellent," and The Outer Worlds 2 is "looking superb." No further game details were revealed; however, with Avowed delayed to 2025, we anticipate similar modifications to Obsidian's other titles.
