Development of The Outer Worlds 2, the second entry in the space action RPG series, is progressing well, according to Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart. While the studio largely remains concentrated on its upcoming RPG, Avowed, Urquhart reassured Outer Worlds fans that the highly anticipated sequel is "going really well."

In a recent interview with Limit Break Network on YouTube, Urquhart expressed his confidence in the team developing The Outer Worlds 2. "I’m impressed with the team," he said. "We have many people on that game that get it—who have worked on the first one and have been with us for a long time. So I’ve actually been really impressed by it."

Urquhart also noted the difficulties the studio faced, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, and after being acquired by Microsoft. Development on multiple titles, including Grounded and Pentiment at the time, stretched the team thin during that period. "We were kind of a subpar developer for about a year, year and a half," he admitted. At one point, there were discussions of halting work on The Outer Worlds 2 altogether and reallocating the team to Avowed. However, the studio ultimately decided to maintain the original plan and continue developing all the games.

"We were acquired [in 2018], and we were adapting to the acquisition, then Covid hit, and we were striving to complete Outer Worlds, its DLC, and advance Avowed, while restarting Outer Worlds 2, progressing Grounded, and Josh was developing Pentiment," the CEO remembered.

Regarding the decision to persevere, Urquhart observed that Grounded and Pentiment "turned out fantastic" and shared that Avowed is "looking excellent," and The Outer Worlds 2 is "looking superb." No further game details were revealed; however, with Avowed delayed to 2025, we anticipate similar modifications to Obsidian's other titles.

The Outer Worlds 2 was first revealed in 2021, but there have been few updates since then. Urquhart acknowledged this, as well as the possibility of a launch delay, mirroring Avowed's experience. Regardless, the CEO stated the studio is dedicated to producing excellent games. "We will complete these games," he said. "Will they meet our initial timelines? No. But we will succeed, a fact now evident." Both games are anticipated on PC and Xbox Series S/X.
