Nintendo Responds to CES 2025 Switch 2 Leaks
Nintendo has issued an uncommon statement regarding the recent flurry of Switch 2 leaks originating from CES 2025. The company confirmed that the circulating images are unofficial, a fact made clear by Nintendo's absence from this year's CES event. This marks a rare instance of Nintendo publicly addressing product leaks.
Numerous Switch 2 leaks have surfaced since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. One notable leak involved accessory manufacturer Genki displaying a purported Switch 2 replica at CES. Images of this replica quickly spread across social media.
Following an inquiry from the Sankei Shimbun, Nintendo officially declared the images and videos of Genki's replica "not official." The company emphasized its non-participation in CES 2025, thereby invalidating any Switch 2 materials showcased at the event as legitimate promotional material.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
While Nintendo didn't comment on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most significant difference from the original Switch is the addition of a new button, resembling the Joy-Con's capture button, located below the home button and labeled "C." Its function remains a mystery.
Genki's CEO, Eddie Tsai, offered additional purported details, including magnetically attaching Joy-Cons and the potential for mouse-like controller functionality—claims consistent with other sources.
The Official Reveal Looms
Nintendo previously indicated a Switch 2 reveal within its fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation builds. Retail availability isn't expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
