Team Ninja and PlatinumGames Unite for Ninja Gaiden 4

This highly anticipated mainline entry, a direct sequel to Ninja Gaiden 3, marks the series' return after a 13-year hiatus. The collaboration isn't surprising, given Microsoft's long-standing relationship with Team Ninja.

A New Protagonist Takes Center Stage

Ninja Gaiden 4 introduces Yakumo, a young ninja from the rival Raven clan, striving to become a Master Ninja. Art Director Tomoko Nishii (PlatinumGames) described Yakumo's design as aiming to create a character who can stand alongside Ryu Hayabusa, the epitome of a ninja. Producer and Director Yuji Nakao (PlatinumGames) explained the decision to introduce a new protagonist: to broaden the series' appeal while still ensuring long-time fans enjoy the game through Ryu's significant role in the narrative. Ryu Hayabusa remains playable, his presence deeply felt throughout the game.

Revitalized Combat

Ninja Gaiden 4 boasts breakneck-speed combat with the signature brutality of the series. Yakumo utilizes two distinct fighting styles: Raven Style and the new Bloodbind Ninjutsu Nue Style. Team Ninja's Masazaku Hirayama assures fans that despite the differences, the action remains true to the Ninja Gaiden spirit. Nakao emphasizes the blend of the series' challenging action with PlatinumGames' dynamic speed and expression. The game is currently 70-80% complete and in the polishing phase.
