Netflix is venturing into the realm of MMOs with the announcement of Spirit Crossing at GDC 2025. Developed by Spry Fox, known for the beloved titles Cozy Grove and Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit, this new game promises to deliver the same enchanting experience with its warm pastel visuals, soothing music, and a focus on fostering connections rather than competition.
Here’s What We Know About Netflix Spirit Crossing
In Spirit Crossing, players will have the opportunity to explore a vast world, build and decorate homes, and cultivate a thriving village alongside others. The gameplay includes gathering resources, riding on adorable fluffy creatures, participating in dance parties, and simply enjoying time with friends.
The visual style of Spirit Crossing draws inspiration from Studio Ghibli, French comics, and even elements of modern art like Corporate Memphis, aiming to create a timeless and welcoming atmosphere where players can settle in for the long haul.
A unique feature of the game is its in-game calendar system, which influences progression. For example, trees planted by players will take three to six real-world months to mature into a harvestable orchard, reflecting the slow-paced, long-term design philosophy that Spry Fox has explored in their previous works.
Central to Spirit Crossing is the emphasis on building meaningful connections, a core aspect of Spry Fox's design ethos. Studio co-founder David Edery expressed his vision for the game to be a space that transforms strangers into friends.
Netflix recently released a trailer for Spirit Crossing, showcasing its charming and enchanting world. You can watch it below to get a glimpse of what awaits:
