Mugen Rebrands as Ananta, Unveils New Trailer

Ananta: The Infinite RPG Formerly Known as Project Mugen

Remember Project Mugen, the highly anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? It's undergone a name change, now officially titled Ananta. First revealed at Gamescom 2023, the game has finally unveiled a new trailer after a long silence, promising further details on December 5th. Until then, enjoy the official trailer:

The name change, from Mugen (meaning "infinite" in Japanese) to Ananta (the Sanskrit word for "infinite"), remains unexplained by the developers. The Chinese title also reflects this "infinite" theme. While the gaming community is divided on the rebranding, the continued development is a welcome relief.

Comparisons are already being drawn between Ananta and Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. Ananta's stylish trailer, however, lacks any gameplay footage, giving Neverness to Everness a perceived advantage for some players. Personally, I find Ananta’s visuals more captivating.

A puzzling aspect of this rebranding is the deletion of all original Project Mugen social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only the Discord server remains, simply renamed. This fresh start has generated considerable confusion among fans.

In Ananta, players assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a supernatural investigator combating paranormal threats. Key characters include Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila. Visit the official website for more details on gameplay features.
