Get ready, Star Wars fans! Marvel Comics is relaunching its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, taking us on a thrilling adventure set after the epic Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa are at the forefront, working tirelessly to establish the New Republic and bring order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.
This exciting new volume is penned by Alex Segura, building upon his acclaimed Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries. The series boasts the incredible artwork of Star Wars veteran Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron), with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing stunning covers for the first issue.

Segura and Noto's Star Wars unfolds roughly two years after Return of the Jedi, immediately following the final showdown between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance at Jakku. In this hopeful, yet precarious new era, the New Republic strives to become the galaxy's governing force. However, our heroes face fresh challenges as opportunistic pirates, thieves, and other nefarious characters exploit the power vacuum left in the Empire's wake.
“Now that we’ve concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can propel ourselves into a new, uncharted era, introducing new galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to confront,” Segura shared with StarWars.com. “These stories will be brimming with action and the character-driven moments Star Wars fans expect, offering fresh perspectives on the galaxy and its landscape. We've designed the series for easy entry, ensuring readers can jump in with any issue. We can't wait for you to experience it!”
“Alex is an exceptional writer, crafting compelling storylines and introducing new characters for this series. I’m incredibly excited to bring them to life on the page!” Noto added. “It’s also been a rewarding challenge to depict the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, as there are no existing film or TV versions to reference. I get to create new looks while drawing inspiration from the actors from the 80s to capture the essence of this timeline.”
Star Wars #1 blasts off on May 7, 2025, perfectly timed to coincide with this year's Star Wars Day celebrations.
This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi comic adventure. In February, they'll launch Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, delving into Kylo Ren's journey following the events of The Last Jedi.
