Keanu Reeves Pitches Constantine 2 to DC Studios, Script Ready

Keanu Reeves has shared the most promising update yet for fans eagerly awaiting Constantine 2. The actor, renowned for his role as John Constantine in the 2005 cult classic, confirmed that the sequel is now in the scriptwriting phase. John Constantine, an occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, was brought to life by Reeves following his success in The Matrix. The original film has garnered a dedicated following over the past two decades, with fans and Reeves alike expressing a strong desire for a sequel.

In a recent development, Reeves disclosed that a pitch meeting with DC Studios resulted in a green light to proceed with crafting a script. "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, 'Okay,'" Reeves told Inverse. "So, we're going to try and write a script."

While this is an encouraging step forward, it's important to note that the project is not yet guaranteed to be greenlit by DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran. Constantine 2 does not currently feature in the rebooted DCU lineup, nor has it been officially mentioned by Gunn or Safran as a potential project. Therefore, its future remains uncertain.

Reeves also teased that should Constantine 2 come to fruition, it will be set in "the same world" as the original film. "We're not going off that," he assured fans, before humorously adding, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."

This update follows comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who revealed in September that a script for Constantine 2 was ready. Speaking to ComicBook, di Bonaventura admitted, "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough. I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
