inZOI's Director Unveils Plans for Karma System and Ghostly Encounters
The inZOI game director, Hyungjun Kim, recently hinted at a fascinating new game mechanic: a Karma system that introduces ghostly Zois. This paranormal addition to the realistic simulation will significantly impact the gameplay experience.
A Zoi's fate after death hinges on their accumulated Karma points. As revealed in a February 7, 2025 Discord post, Zois with sufficient Karma peacefully transition to the afterlife. Those lacking sufficient points, however, remain as ghosts, bound to the world until they accrue enough Karma to move on. The specific actions required to increase Karma remain undisclosed.
Kim assures players that ghostly interactions will be carefully balanced to avoid overshadowing the core gameplay, promising an engaging, yet contained experience. Currently, in the Early Access version, players can only interact with ghost Zois through limited conversations under specific circumstances.
Kim expressed a desire to explore more fantastical elements within inZOI, stating that these departures from strict realism could enhance the overall enjoyment.
A Glimpse into Karma Interactions
Krafton Inc., inZOI's publisher, collaborated with content creators in August 2024 to showcase the game. MadMorph's sponsored video offered a brief look at the Karma Interaction system. This system allows Zois to perform actions that either increase or decrease their Karma score. The video showcased a humorous example – a character secretly farting on another Zoi's face – which resulted in a negative Karma impact. Positive actions, such as discarding trash or liking a friend's post, were also mentioned but not demonstrated.
While the Early Access version, launching on Steam March 28, 2025, focuses on the living Zois, the Karma Interaction system promises to play a much larger role in future updates.
