It wouldn't be a Nintendo console without a Zelda game, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is no exception. The latest addition to the franchise was revealed during today's Nintendo Direct: a new Hyrule Warriors game titled *Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment*. Developed by Koei Tecmo, this game serves as a prequel to *Tears of the Kingdom* and is set to launch this winter.
*Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment* continues the tradition of the Hyrule Warriors series, this time featuring characters from the ancient history of *Tears of the Kingdom*. Players will follow Zelda as she travels back in time and teams up with the last remaining Zonai, Rauru, his sister Mineru, and his wife Sonia to combat Ganondorf and his forces. The game delves into Zelda's actions during this period, offering a new perspective on the events leading up to *Tears of the Kingdom*.Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 - Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment

The trailer showcased the unique abilities of the champions, including Mineru piloting a mech, Zelda wielding powerful magic, Rauru with his distinctive sword-spear, and glimpses of other Sacred Stone wielders.
This marks the third entry in the Hyrule Warriors series, following the original Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which was a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Age of Calamity impressed with its storytelling and gameplay, earning a 9/10 rating from us for being "a joy to play and discover" and "a blast from start to finish." It will be fascinating to see if Age of Imprisonment takes a similarly surprising narrative approach.
