Ghoul Update for Fallout 76: Key Details

Author: Nathan Apr 05,2025

Fallout 76 Season 20 introduces an exciting new feature that allows players to transform into Ghouls in the radiation-filled world of Appalachia. This update, titled "The Ghoul Within," is now live and brings a host of ghoul-related features, mechanics, and new cosmetics to enhance your C.A.M.P. experience.

Unleash the Ghoul Within

In this latest update, players can embark on the "Leap of Faith" questline to undergo Ghoulification. This journey leads you to a new area in the Savage Divide, where you'll encounter unique characters who aid in your transformation. As a Ghoul, you'll gain access to exclusive abilities like Glow and Feral, along with 30 new Ghoul-specific Perks, known as "Gherks."

The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics, offering boosts based on the Feral meter's level. At 0%, you'll experience dramatic gameplay changes, including a +150% increase in Melee Damage, but at the cost of -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, and a -300% reduction in Hip-fire and V.A.T.S. Accuracy.

The Glow ability allows you to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and even causing you to emit a glow. This ability not only increases your maximum health and heals damage but also enhances your Ghoul-exclusive Perks.

With 28 perks to choose from and two new legendary perks, Ghouls have a wide range of customization options. However, perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are unavailable to Ghouls, as they don't benefit from these.

A Day In The Life of A Ghoul

Fallout 76 Ghoul Update Details

Navigating the radiation-infested wasteland as a Ghoul is made easier with the new abilities and Gherks. However, certain factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may become hostile, potentially locking you out of some questlines. Fortunately, a new NPC named Jaye offers disguises that allow you to access content otherwise restricted to Ghouls.

If the Ghoul life isn't for you, you can revert to being human via the Character Screen. Note that this is a one-way decision, as you can't redo the Leap of Faith questline. However, you can purchase the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms if you wish to become a Ghoul again.

Bethesda has also announced the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update, set for April 29, as part of their season calendar.
