The acclaimed strategy game, ROME: Total War, has received a significant free update for Android devices. Feral Interactive's "Imperium Update" delivers a host of gameplay enhancements, refined controls, and improved quality-of-life features for players who enjoyed the 2018 Android release. This update is also slated to arrive next week for the standalone expansions, *Barbarian Invasion* and *Alexander*.
What's New in the Imperium Update?
Borrowing inspiration from Feral's more recent mobile titles, *Total War: MEDIEVAL II* and *EMPIRE*, the Imperium Update introduces three crucial control options: Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection. These additions provide players with greater command over their units, leading to more precise battlefield maneuvers. Army, agent, and fleet movement is now simplified with a tap-and-hold mechanic, eliminating the need for manual path dragging.
Positioning Mode offers fine-grained control over unit placement through tap-and-hold functionality. The new Group Grid feature streamlines unit group management with a convenient collapsible selection menu. Melee Mode allows ranged units to seamlessly transition into close-quarters combat when necessary. A significant addition is Command Slowdown, which automatically reduces game speed during complex order execution. Finally, keyboard and mouse support has been integrated for Android (and iPad) users for the first time.
The minimap has undergone a redesign, mirroring the improved interface found in *MEDIEVAL II*. Smoother zooming and navigation are now available, along with a handy reset button for quick returns to the default view.
The update is currently available on the Google Play Store for all ROME: Total War owners on Android. Don't forget to check back next week for the updates to *Barbarian Invasion* and *Alexander*.
