In the expansive world of Divinity: Original Sin 2, the Blackroot stands out as one of the most vital herbs you'll encounter in Rivellon. This herb becomes crucial during the fourth act when you're tasked with performing the Meister's Ritual under the guidance of Meister Siva. To successfully complete this ritual, you'll need to craft a special Ritual Bowl using a ritual bowl, a bloody obsidian lancet, and the essential Blackroot. This concoction grants you access to the Hall of Echoes and the valuable Night Vision skill.
The first ritual can be easily completed as all required ingredients are conveniently located in Siva's basement. However, subsequent rituals, which you can perform each time you gain a Source point, require you to source these ingredients yourself. While the ritual bowl and obsidian lancet might already be in your inventory or easily obtainable, finding Blackroot can be a daunting task. If you're struggling to locate this herb, this guide is here to assist you.
Venture Into Cloisterwood
Cloisterwood, a dense forest in the northwestern part of Reaper's Coast, is just a short journey north of Driftwood. Upon entering the forest, press and hold the left ALT key to reveal all available pickups, including the elusive Blackroot. You'll find these herbs scattered at the base of various trees. It's wise to collect multiple Blackroots, even though the ritual only requires one, as a precautionary measure. While this guide avoids detailed spoilers, remember that you can perform the ritual each time you earn a Source point.
Cloisterwood Exploration Tips
Cloisterwood is teeming with hidden secrets and intriguing characters. You'll encounter two NPCs, Hannag and Jahan, who can each help you gain a Source point. Jahan is also key to advancing Lohse's storyline. Hidden among the ruins, you'll find Eithne, an undead trader. Engage with her and select the "Divine Order" option to unlock a side quest.
Further north in Cloisterwood, you'll reach a pier where the Dead Ferryman NPC awaits, ready to transport you to Bloodmoon Island. These are just a few of the notable characters you'll meet. The forest also holds other secrets, like the Wrecker's Cave and the chance to acquire a unique loremaster amulet by conversing with the spirit of a ship captain. If you're exploring Cloisterwood for the first time, take the time to thoroughly investigate the area. It's recommended to steer clear of the crucified witch, Alice Alisceon, until you reach at least level 15.
