How To Anoint in Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)

In *Path of Exile 2*, boosting your character's power is key, and anointing offers a significant advantage. While some power boosts are straightforward, anointing requires a bit more understanding. Here's your guide to mastering this mechanic.

Unlocking the Anointing Power

Anointing amulets and Waystones isn't available from the start; you'll need Distilled Emotions, obtained primarily from completing Delirium Maps. These function similarly to Blight Oils from the first game. There are ten types: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

While Delirium Maps are the main source, you can also acquire Distilled Emotions through trading or currency exchange. To upgrade existing emotions, use the Reforging Bench; three of the same type yield one upgraded version, giving you more control over your collection. Simulacrum waves offer a chance to drop Distilled Emotions, but it's less efficient than Delirium Maps and significantly more challenging.

Anointing Your Items

Currently, you can anoint amulets and Waystones, with the possibility of more items being added in the future. To anoint an amulet, open the Instilling window (any Distilled Emotion will work to open it). Place the amulet in the central slot and three Distilled Emotions in the bottom slots. The required emotions for a specific Notable Passive Skill are displayed in the Passive Skill Tree—hover over the skill and press Alt (PC) or R3 (controller).

Remember, anointing isn't permanent. You can re-anoint an amulet to change its passive skill, adapting your build as needed. The process is similar for Waystones, increasing their difficulty but also improving the loot potential. Note that corrupted items cannot be anointed.
