Welcome to the "Digital Revolution of Devarattam" app, a project that celebrates the vibrant folk dance of Tamil Nadu known as Devarattam. This app is dedicated to the legends of Devarattam, including the esteemed Kalaimamani awardees Mr. M Kumararaman, a retired teacher, Mr. M Kannan Kumar, and Mr. K Nellai Manikandan from Zamin Kodangipatti, who has also been honored with the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar. My heartfelt dedication extends to my guru, Mr. E Rajakamulu, and all the lovable legends of Devarattam. The primary aim of this app is to spread awareness about Devarattam and honor its distinguished awardees.
Devarattam, a traditional dance form, has been performed by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community for centuries and continues to be a cherished art today. The dance is characterized by 32 basic steps, which serve as the foundation for up to 72 variations, showcasing the versatility and richness of this art form.
In Devarattam performances, dancers captivate audiences by holding a kerchief in each hand and wearing Salangai on each leg. They dance to the rhythm provided by the traditional musical instrument known as the Deva Thunthumi, creating an immersive and culturally rich experience.
